I can remember the shoes I was wearing the day I received my GCSE results. It was a long time ago, and what I was wearing on my feet on the days I received A levels, degree or post graduate results I could not tell you. The reason is I loved those shoes, they would not seem that special to anyone else but I had built a story around them and why they were important to me. I attach meaning to many of my things, especially something so personal as jewellery, that also impacts the way I design jewellery for others.
The Chakra Collection started as me choosing a few stones for the jewellery that I make because they were beautiful, I started with Rose Quartz, Amethyst and Onyx, as I worked with these stones I started to learn about some of the properties and myths associated with them, and their connection with the Chakras of the body. From there I decided to select a stone associated with each Chakra of the body, and developed the Chakra Collection to have a range of pieces that combine different stones & metals to create beautiful wearable pieces, but also have a meaning and mythology.
Jewellery created with meaningTo me, it doesn't make a difference if you believe wholeheartedly in the healing properties of natural gemstones or if you are sceptical about their efficacy to put it politely, I think the reasons why you choose a particular stone for either yourself or a loved one is what is important and makes it significant. You can click on each Chakra / stone if you want a brief overview of it's meaning here.
However to help people choose something dependant on what's happening in the life of the recipient I created the graphic below. It gives some examples of some of the things we might go through in life and what stone could be appropriate in that context. It's by no means comprehensive and like many things open to interpretation, that I leave in your hands.
